나의 작업은 **Color Weaving**이라는 조형 언어를 중심으로 전개된다. Color Weaving은 색을 단순히 화면 위에 입히는 것이 아니라, 직조의 구조 안에서 색과 시간, 기억을 함께 엮어내는 작업 방식이다. 나는 삶을 수많은 관계와 경험, 그리고 시간이 교차하며 만들어지는 하나의 직물로 바라본다. 작업은 이러한 삶의 구조를 색과 직조를 통해 시각화하는 과정이다. **Life** 시리즈는 Color Weaving의 개념을 가장 근본적으로 보여주는 작업이다. 일정한 폭으로 자른 채색 면천을 손으로 엮고 묶어 새로운 캔버스 지지체를 만든 뒤, 그 위에 반복적으로 색을 쌓아 올린다. 직조된 구조는 미세한 높낮이와 틈을 만들고, 화면은 빛과 바라보는 각도에 따라 끊임없이 다른 색과 깊이를 드러낸다. 평면은 더 이상 이미지를 담는 바탕이 아니라, 색과 물성, 시간의 흔적이 축적되는 하나의 공간이 된다. 직조 과정에서 형성되는 씨실과 날실의 교차, 그리고 매듭은 내면과 외부 세계가 관계를 맺고 소통하는 방식을 은유한다. 섬유가 지닌 유연성은 화면에 리듬과 생명감을 부여하며, 우연히 생성되는 미세한 틈들은 공기를 머금은 섬유처럼 작품 안에 숨결과 온기를 불어넣는다. 나는 이러한 여백을 기억과 감정이 머무는 공간으로 바라본다. 작품의 색은 일상 속 자연에서 시작된다. 제주 바다의 깊은 물빛, 저녁 노을의 붉은 빛, 별이 수놓인 새벽 하늘, 여름비 뒤에 떠오른 무지개, 그리고 시시각각 변화하는 하늘의 색은 작업의 중요한 모티프가 된다. 자연에서 마주한 순간의 색은 개인의 기억과 감정을 품은 풍경으로 축적되고, Color Weaving을 통해 새로운 공간으로 다시 태어난다. 최근에는 Color Weaving을 평면 회화에서 오브제와 공간으로 확장하고 있다. 전통 소반의 구조를 현대적으로 재해석한 **풍경 소반** 시리즈는 직조된 색의 구조를 공간 속 작은 풍경으로 구현한 작업이다. 회화 안에 머물던 색은 입체적인 구조를 만나 하나의 풍경이 되고, 관람자는 그 풍경과 마주하며 자신의 기억과 감정을 함께 직조하게 된다. 나에게 Color Weaving은 재료를 다루는 기법이 아니라 삶을 바라보는 방식이다. 오늘도 나는 일상 속에서 마주하는 빛과 색, 기억과 감정을 한 올 한 올 엮으며, 시간의 결을 담은 새로운 풍경을 만들어간다. My practice is centered on **Color Weaving**, a visual language that I have developed to weave together color, time, and memory within the structure of weaving itself. Rather than applying color onto a surface, Color Weaving integrates color into the woven form, transforming it into both material and experience. I see life as a fabric composed of countless relationships, memories, and moments that intersect over time. Through Color Weaving, I seek to give visual form to this invisible structure of life. The **Life** series presents the fundamental expression of this concept. Each work begins with the construction of a new canvas support, created by hand-weaving and tying strips of dyed cotton fabric cut to equal widths. Layers of paint are then repeatedly built upon this woven surface. The interlaced structure creates subtle variations in depth and small openings that respond to changing light and the viewer’s perspective. The canvas is no longer a passive support for painting but becomes an active field where color, materiality, and time accumulate. The intersections of warp and weft, together with the knots formed through weaving, become metaphors for the ways our inner lives connect with the external world. The flexibility of textile introduces rhythm and vitality to the surface, while the incidental gaps created through the weaving process allow the work to breathe. I think of these subtle spaces as places where memory, emotion, and lived experience quietly reside. The colors in my work originate from moments encountered in everyday nature: the deep blue of the sea surrounding Jeju Island, the crimson glow of an evening sunset, the indigo-violet sky before dawn filled with stars, the rainbow that appears after a summer rainstorm, and the ever-changing colors of the sky. These fleeting impressions are transformed into emotional landscapes, where personal memories are woven into color through the process of Color Weaving. In recent years, I have expanded Color Weaving beyond the two-dimensional picture plane into sculptural objects and spatial installations. The **Landscape Soban** series reinterprets the structure of the traditional Korean *soban* as a contemporary sculptural form, transforming woven color into intimate landscapes within space. Color, once contained within painting, extends into three dimensions, inviting viewers to inhabit the work through their own memories and emotions. For me, Color Weaving is not simply a technique but a way of understanding life. Each day, I continue to weave together light, color, memory, and emotion encountered in everyday life, creating new landscapes that carry the texture of time.
